On November 17, 2015, Magento stopped adding new features to Magento 1.x and the only additions that are currently available for Magento 1.x are security updates. Additionally, Magento top brass has been encouraging preparing for migration to Magento 2 since Imagine 2014, where it was announced that support and maintenance for Magento 1.x will completely phase out by November of 2018.
