Imagine_2016_Takeaways.jpg

ParadoxLabs was once again in attendance at the Magento Imagine from April 11-13, 2016 in Las Vegas. Approximately 2500 people gathered to get a glimpse into the future, become inspired and discover upcoming changes.

Magento Enterprise Cloud Edition

Cloud Edition was the first keynote’s highlight.  It is Magento Enterprise on Amazon AWS hosted and supported by Magento thereby providing variable scaling. Magento offers all necessary services to enable setting up a project in few steps. In contrast to SaaS solutions, the store manager or the agency in charge have all possibilities they have with a “normal” Magento project. Individual adjustments are not limited.

All-in-One Cloud- Backed by Magento includes:

  • One contract, one price
  • 24/7 P1 application and infrastructure support
  • Monitoring and dynamic environment scaling
  • Pro-active patch application
  • Solution partner freindly

According to the announcement, Magento Enterprise Cloud Edition is scheduled to May 2016. No word on pricing was made available; however there was a brief discussion about what would be included in the cost such as the full Magento 2 EE License, 24/7 monitoring, application and infrastructure support, CDN and DDoS protection with generous bandwidth allowances and unrestricted versions of New Relic APM Pro and Backfire.io Enterprise.

For larger stores, Cloud Edition presents an interesting option to transfer an online store to scalable cloud hosting without the need of great internal know-how. Furthermore, based on the announcement an additional version for small and medium-sized online stores could become available within a year.

Magento MCOM

MCOM is Magento Commerce Order Manager (MCOM)

MCOM is aimed at retailers with high complexity in the supply chain, and it provides merchants extensive flexibility in both inventory and order management. MCOM is a great match for retailers with omnichannel needs.

  • MCOM is a SaaS OMS platform, with a seamless integration to Magento 1.14 and 2.0
  • MCOM is a new product, built from the start of 2012 on PHP
  • MCOM integrates all of a retailer's order channels into one platform
  • MCOM can build complex rules, inventory, and order automation
  • MCOM offers payment and fraud services
  • An iOS is available for stores to fullfill orders sent by MCOM

MCOM is designed to solves issues including:

  • multiple inventory placements - MCOM can dispatch the order to the location that can fulfill it the cheapest and fastest
  • automatically splitting orders on different inventories to meet the delivery
  • built-in automation rules

Magento 2.1

During the final keynote, Paul Bosivert, head of product management announced the new Magento version of 2.1 planned for June 2016.

The core features will be:

Staging & Preview

This will enable a preview of content in Magento before publishing them for visitors. These include CMS pages, categories and products. The staging functionality will only be part of Enterprise Edition to further distinguish Magento Enterprise Edition from Community Edition.

Elastic search Integration

In contrast to Magento’s default product search, which is based on MySQL, this search will be considerably faster and provide better search results with regard to quality and relevance

Improved Payment Integration

PayPal and Braintree were specifically referenced.  Further details have not yet been published.

In addition, Boisvert provided information that focused mainly on version 2.2, which is anticipated to be released early next year.

B2B Edition of Magento

This release is aimed squarely at the B2B market and will offer features such as individual prices per customer (contract pricing), order workflows and quote requests.

Magento Imagine 2017

Next year’s conference will take place from April 3-5, 2016 again at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas.
